About SaltyJam
Saltyjam, Saint John’s Festival of Music, dates back to 1995 as the Saint John Jazz & Blues Festival. From humble beginnings as a small, modest festival, the event has grown significantly over the last few years, including the following:
- Gaining of non-profit status;
- Becoming incorporated;
- Expansion of free venues;
- More shows;
- Increased awareness; and
- Recognition from all levels of government including Municipal, Provincial and Federal.
Consequently, the festival is also recognized by the following attributes:
- Saltyjam is 100% volunteer run;
- The Festival includes a combination of world class artists and local talent;
- The program includes a combination of free concert series and pay for viewing over multiple venues;
- The Festival has become known as the summer music event in Saint John; and
- In 2009 the festival received Federal funding through the Building Communities through Arts & Heritage Program, making Saltyjam a recognized cultural event in Canada.
It is the goal of the Organizing Committee to sustain a high quality Festival. As we look forward to the continued opportunity for growth and the future of the Festival we have a created a plan focused on a number of key opportunity areas.
- Continued focus on improving the Festival programming making the product relevant to our audience;
- Increasing the accessibility of the Festival to the people of southern New Brunswick by expanding outside the downtown core of Saint John; and
- Directly marketing to and provide programming for the vast multi-cultural communities in our area.
